For cold water fish farming Sablefish is a golden opportunity waiting to be exploited. Sablefish have a very strong and undersupplied market, command a very high price and all the major husbandry processes essential for farming this fish have been tried and tested on an industrial scale. For 10 years I was intimately involved in every aspect of producing this fish “from egg to plate”. Hundreds of thousands of fish were produced, grown out, and marketed. And then, it all seemed to have fizzled out. It need not be so, so what happened? Over the next while I will be giving technical, market and business information related to the farming of this exquisite fish. This will be interspersed with the anecdotal stories that one has to expect when climbing aboard the fish farming roller coaster. As I pushed for making Sablefish farming a reality in the early days I want to push again in the hope that some of you out there will be inspired to benefit from this opportunity. I hope you enjoy.
